Friends, families, locals, and foreign tourists who gather on Puerto Vallarta’s famous Malecon (Boardwalk) are part of an atmosphere of pride and celebration around Downtown. The festive environment blends the sounds of children and mariachis playing everywhere and traders selling Mexican delicacies like elotes, tacos, and tamales.
When night comes on, residents and tourists wave Mexican flags while proudly wearing our national colors: green, white and red. Children run and play wearing traditional costumes, accenting the Malecon with brilliant bursts of color.
Just before 11pm, the Mayor of Puerto Vallarta will take to the balcony of City Hall while the people gathered below in the Plaza de Armas prepare to shout the Grito de Dolores (Mexico’s traditional War Cry). The sounds of hundreds of voices shouting “Viva Mexico” will spread through the streets, culminating with everyone singing the Mexican National Anthem.
To complete the colorful night, a spectacular Independence Day fireworks display over the Bay of Banderas will entertain everyone—young and old, citizens and visitors.
