First Ballenarte Conservation Festival

Ballenarte, which translates loosely to WhaleArt, will be held From January 08 to 11 and is the first national festival to promote the whale conservation in Puerto Vallarta and the Bay of Banderas.

This festival aims to create awareness of how important  the whales are in our ecosystem. Every year these magnificent species pay us a visit. In recent years it has been observed that the whale population is increasing!

This festival is aimed to inform residents and tourists as well as to raise funds to continue  the projects of the civil association Ecology and Conservation of Whales. These events are planned:

Wednesday January 8, 2014

  • 5:00pm Carnival of Boats authorized for the whale watching (Jalisco and Nayarit) and inauguration at Los Muertos pier. Event Sponsored by Ecotours de Mexico and Zaragoza Marine.
  • 6:30pm Tour  Operators Awards – Recognition of  whale-watching tour operators for their performance and navigational practices in the conservation and protection of humpback whales.
  • Unveiling of the Human Blue Whale canvas (32x12mts) by internationally renowned photographer Patricio Robles Gil, in the Juarez parking lot.
  • Fund-Raising Dinners at both NU Restaurant and Café Des Artistes.

  •  20% Discount on whale-watching tours in the morning.
  • 6:30pm Conference for Humpback Whales and Banderas Bay Projects Taught by Astrid  Frisch Jordan Hotel Secrets Resorts & Spas. Event, sponsored by Timon Tours.
  • 7:30pm Fine-Art Whale Photography Exhibition 6:30pm Screening of the documentary Ocean Oasis on the Sea of ​​Cortes in the Octopus Garden, Huanacaxtle, Nayarit.
  • Fund-Raising Dinners at both NU Restaurant and Café Des Artistes.

Friday January 10, 2014 

  • 20% Discount on tours of whale watching tours in the morning.
  • 6:30pm Screening of the documentary Ocean Oasis on the Sea of ​​Cortes at the Mantamar Beach  Club Bar & Grill.
  • 6:30pm Humpback Whale Conference in Los Arroyos Verdes, Bucerias, Nayarit. Taught by Roberto Moncada Biol, ITBB, Marine Mammal Research Group.

Saturday January 11, 2014 

  • 8:00am Bike Rally in Marina Vallarta, starting at the whale sculpture, sponsored by Golozo’s Bike.
  • 11:00am After the race, the kids will form a humpback whale with their bodies for a photograph will be taken from the Lighthouse Marina Vallarta.
  • 7:00pm to 11:00pm Dinner to Benefit Fiesta Mexicana in Lazaro Cardenas Park,sponsored by Association Vallarta Centro.
  • 9:00pm Raffle.
  • 11:00pm Festival
